Kindergarten Curriculum

Kindergarten students at Thrive Academy attend a nurturing learning environment, which fosters social-emotional, intellectual, and physical growth. Classrooms promote exploration and social engagement through a multi-sensory instructional approach as they develop the foundational skills and mindset required for success in elementary school and beyond.

Physical education, music, science, library and art classes are an integral part of the kindergarten day at Thrive Academy. In all of the disciplines, teachers guide students to develop behaviors that enhance independent work while providing opportunities for students to make connections across the academic areas.

Language Arts

Language Arts activities are designed to instill a love for reading and writing and establish the foundational literacy skills needed to succeed in later grades. Emphasis is placed on letter exploration and recognition, beginning sounds A-Z, letter-sound recognition, rhyming, verbs, adjectives and oral modeling. Prewriting skills include labeling pictures, writing one’s own name, and capital and lowercase letters A-Z.

Science

A multi-sensory, hands-on approach develops students' scientific inquiry skills as they delve into exciting units on animals/habitats, gardening, seasons, weather, the solar system, the human body and senses. Our hands-on activities in kindergarten including planting our own seeds and classroom visits from different animals.

Math

Students learn to recognize and apply math concepts in their daily lives through math investigations in group activities and routines such as in calendar, weather, and attendance activities. Emphasis is placed on number recognition: 0-30, counting 0-30, 1:1 correspondence, sorting, patterning, ordering, sequencing, matching numbers to quantities, geometric shapes, ordinal numbers and simple addition.

Character Education

Social and emotional skills are taught through character education. During daily morning meetings and activities, students learn about school routines as well as practice sharing, taking turns, collaborating, waiting, listening, and interpersonal problem-solving skills. Kind manners, personal space, and positive mindsets are taught through literature, songs, poems, buddy activities, group centers, cooperative learning projects, and “teachable moments”.

Specials

Art: Creativity and self-expression is encouraged through the tactile and kinesthetic exploration of colors, shapes, lines, patterns and design. Art mediums include drawing, painting, stamping, dough, and 3D materials.
